Anna's Bat Mitzvah 3.22.08

Here are a few pictures from Anna's Bat Mitzvah at the Penn Club last week. It was great to see so many familiar faces from the years past. I realized on my way to the club that I've photographed a few of these folks every year for the last four years. Then I started to feel old and realized that it's probably not the light in my bathroom, I really am getting grey hair!

I love seeing familiar faces, watching families grow and being a part of special days like this one.

Got Moxie?

I'm just back from two weeks on the road. My first stop was in Evanston, IL home of my new niece, Moxie Liel Zises (bet you don't hear that everyday!). She just reached the one month marker and is the most chill baby I've met. Although I suspect she's got a little fire in her. My favorite thing about both my nieces at this age is their facial expressions, they change so quickly and for no particular reason. Actually I'm not sure about that maybe her mirror neurons are at work, I'll have to ask Ilan. For those of you that don't already know, Ilan is not only an amazing photographer, he's a brilliant neuroscientist. Sadly I've lost him to science, but I'm really proud of him. He's been published in two wedding magazines and multiple scientific journals in the last year. Mazel tov hamoud! If you need a little light reading click here! Actually click there regardless, it's fascinating.

Disgusted Moxie

Fighter Moxie

Before I go any further, I should introduce two of my favorite 4 leggeds and Moxie's predecessors. Meet Lynx.

And Nula

Lynx helps out cleaning Moxie's face.

But it's exhausting.

So the water babe takes a real bath.

And Nula tells me what Pitbulls really think about babies-doh!

After Evanston, I went to Vegas for WPPI, a huge wedding photography conference. It was my first time going and it was AWESOME! I got to hang with a bunch of my NY buddies, including the other members of the "J" Crew (Jason, Jen, Jordan and Julia), as well as meeting a bunch of new lovely and inspiring photogs. And well, it's Vegas so I didn't sleep much, but I have two non-photographers to blame for that! Two of my oldest and funniest friends came for the weekend with suitcases stuffed with dresses and high heels. My feet are still recovering and my sides are sore from laughing. But really I was there for work, I learned a ton too!

GiGi & Archie 3.01.08

I love small intimate weddings and I was thrilled to be a part of GiGi and Archie's day. I don't think these two stopped smiling all day long, except to do a few Zoolander inspired poses :-) I had so much fun working with them, I want to do it all over again!

The ceremony was held in the chapel at The Brick Church, my nursery school!!! And Archie's too ;-)

The reception was held at the beautiful Eleven Madison Park Restaurant.

Thanks for trooping out into the bitter cold!

Caroline & Jeff 2.09.08

What a night! I don't know where to begin. I had so much fun photographing Caroline & Jeff's wedding it went by in a flash. First off a huge thanks to my team of ladies in black, Jen Davis, Jordan Van Aken and Rebecca Havekost.

Caroline mixed traditional beauty with a bit of her own flair. Her stunning lace jacket was custom made by a friend of a friend and was just the right touch for a winter wedding.

Jessie of Rountree Flowers did an amazing job with the floral arrangements. Her work is so elegant and inventive, it blows me away everytime!

The ceremony was at the beautiful Church of the Incarnation. It was pretty special to photograph there since it is the church my great-grandmother attended.

The reception was a few blocks away at the Union League Club. I think the smiles say it all although I was probably still in shock at this point after Jeff's sister had me convinced that she was actually their father's wife and I had just totally insulted her by asking her to stand next to her actual husband (yeah I'm a little gullible). I just love this photo Jen took of one of the centerpieces, it was just the right touch for the dining room.

Caroline & Jeff made a grand entrance to Fever and looked like pros out on the dance floor. This was definitely one of my favorite parts of the evening although I had to stay on my toes to keep up with them!
